What Is Substance Alcohol Abuse

Contrary to what most people think, there is a clear difference between alcohol addiction and substance alcohol abuse. Some believe that alcohol abuse is one of the phases which can suggest there are warning signs that addiction is imminent; others believe that alcohol abuse can pose enough of an issue in itself.

Many experts who are in the industry refer to alcohol abuse in different ways - for example, 'problem drinking' is one of the phrases which has become synonymous with the implications that this type of substance abuse can arise. We are going to look at just some of the types of substance alcohol abuse.

Naturally, one of the most obvious forms of alcohol abuse is drinking whilst under the influence of liquor. Even though the penalties which can arise from such a criminal offence can vary from state to state and country to country (with the definition of unsafe driving depending on the legal blood/alcohol limits), it is generally agreed that the consumption of alcohol by a driver can affect reaction times and safety on the road in excessive amounts.

Just because you don't drive once you have had a drink doesn't mean you are exempt from the category of alcohol abusers. For example, those who are binge drinking are also vulnerable in the respect that their spontaneous bouts of drinking can put a large and an unexpected impact on the body, and is another sign of alcohol abuse.

Everyone gets drunk once in a while, with some people misjudging whether they were safe to be on the roads after the alcohol they had consumed. There are systems in these cases where a person can be reprimanded for their mistake without necessarily losing their driving license. The alarm bells should normally ring with the authorities and the families of alcohol abusers if DUI offences are happening frequently, or if a person is binging every other night.

Should a person lose their license, the consequences can be dire - with some people's lives completely changing as a result. If you drive for a living as a bus driver, a postman or a lorry driver, how would you manage to go about your job without your license? Losing a job can provide the trauma that can trigger an alcohol addiction, with a developing addict drinking themselves into a further stupor in the hope that they can escape the depression they may be experiencing as a result of their loss.

This is just one of the scenarios which can happen. Many people can find that an alcohol addiction can enable them to lose a lot less - including their families, friends, and the people which they love. If something can be done to prevent the devastation that substance alcohol abuse can cause, it is a certainty that it should be done sooner rather than later. With the costs of rehabilitation also being high, the repercussions can remain with a family unit for a lot longer than you would originally imagine.
